Hard to know what 'tribes' means on Grindr. I'm never sure if it means 'Who I see myself as' or 'Who I'm interested in'.

It's supposed to be the former, so other people can filter the results for the 'tribes' they like. But it gets used as the latter all the time making it useless.

Context... On Grindr you can join groups called tribes. It's like "bears, twinks, etc" so people who are using filters can filter for certain groups. I believe it used to work where you would click to filter out groups but they received heavy backlash. You know the trope "no fats no fems no asians"? Basically i remember people getting mad about this type of thing for years but recently I'm pretty sure everyone just started checking off trans to filter out and of course that's when the SJW outrage is suddenly bowed down to.

So now you can proactively join tribes and you can filter by that.

Apparently you also can't filter out trans people on Tinder anymore.

On Grindr you can somewhat get around it by filtering FOR the other categories. I believe you need to pay for premium to have multiple tribes in your profile and that's super rare. I think there's nothing stopping them from just picking a different tribe though. They need to opt in to be filterable but most seem to. I'm guessing it's because there are so many T chasers on Grindr.
