They're saying her career is dead.. I wonder who actually thinks that outside of twitter

The same people who think men are women: delusional people. She's one of the richest and most loved authors on the planet and that's not going to change

If she dropped another proper Harry Potter book those same freaks would be lining up outside bookstores.

i don't get it either, i remember reading a twitter thread about how they were going to "deny" jk rowling of harry potter or something. she made millions off of her wildly successful book series that got several film adaptions, do people really think some 15 year olds on twitter are gonna do anything?

Imagine if this was just the start of her career though. These idiots could've 'cancelled' her and we would have never known what a brilliant writer she was.

This is ridiculous. Apparently what started this is that someone claims that in her new book "A cis man dressed as a woman" kills women, or something and apparently this is twansphobic uwu. But if it is a CIS man, how can it be transphobic? These people are literally forcing transvesites, drag queens, and crossdressers into the trans label now.

Here is the blurb of the book according to Goodreads It's not out yet so no one knows for sure what's inside it:

Private Detective Cormoran Strike is visiting his family in Cornwall when he is approached by a woman asking for help finding her mother, Margot Bamborough - who went missing in mysterious circumstances in 1974.

Strike has never tackled a cold case before, let alone one forty years old. But despite the slim chance of success, he is intrigued and takes it on; adding to the long list of cases that he and his partner in the agency, Robin Ellacott, are currently working on. And Robin herself is also juggling a messy divorce and unwanted male attention, as well as battling her own feelings about Strike.

As Strike and Robin investigate Margot's disappearance, they come up against a fiendishly complex case with leads that include tarot cards, a psychopathic serial killer and witnesses who cannot all be trusted. And they learn that even cases decades old can prove to be deadly . . .

A breathtaking, labyrinthine epic, Troubled Blood is the fifth Strike and Robin novel and the most gripping and satisfying yet.

EDIT - here is the review that started this mess:

https://archive.is/fhQED#selection-249.144-249.156

The meat of the book is the investigation into a cold case: the disappearance of GP Margot Bamborough in 1974, thought to have been a victim of Dennis Creed, a transvestite serial killer. One wonders what critics of Rowling’s stance on trans issues will make of a book whose moral seems to be: never trust a man in a dress.

Because what is called trans today was just tranvestite in the past. They know it is the same in the end, that's why they hate it

If this is anything like the freakout people had over The Silkworm, it’s completely misrepresented. Yet, people won’t actually read the book to see that.

For people out of the loop on the trans controversy in one of the previous installments, here’s what TRAs said happened: a transwoman is made fun in regards to her Adam’s apple, Strike (the main character) belittles and threatens a transwoman, and transwomen are portrayed as freaks.

Here’s what actually happened in the book: Strike is surprise attacked and badly injured by a woman. Later she comes at him again and he gets the upper hand. He threatens to go to the cops and she freaks. Strike demands to see her driver’s license and she gives him a man’s license. Strike is genuinely confused and then noticed the Adam’s apple. He doesn’t say anything to the transwoman about it. Strike keeps asking questions and the transwoman gets combative. Strike threatens to go to the cops again and points out that, if he does, they would certainly be arrested and charged as a pre-op transwoman. They end up becoming allies by the end of the book. The two trans characters are portrayed as freaks by the goddam villain for whom JKR has no sympathy.

No trans person is ever misgendered or made fun of in the book at any point. The character of Pippa is actually really sympathetic.

Drag Queens already banned in some USA states for "mocking transgenders". Same with transvestites. Or well, not really banned by law (gladly), but still.

This is already happening elsewhere. According to Stonewall and GLAAD the phrase 'transvestite' is now considered offensive and the phrase has been removed from the 'media reference guide'.

This happened in the last couple of weeks. It was on the list a month ago.

Homosexual is now in the offensive category seperate from all the other terms. Again a recent change. It was still listed with the others a few weeks ago.

They have changed the website very recently to add a specific 'offensive' listing.

Homosexual (see Offensive Terms to Avoid) Outdated clinical term considered derogatory and offensive. The Associated Press, New York Times and Washington Post restrict usage of the term.

We are being erased, step by step.

Just look at the state of it.

Signed a HOMOSEXUAL TRANSVESTITE.

I saw this shit on my personal/hobby twitter where I try my hardest to avoid politics shit. It's sickening watching this, seeing tons of people (most of which are teenagers I assume) wish death on a woman because she said something "problematic." And from what I've seen she never said anything that outrageous, but they're calling her a "racist hateful transphobe."

Fortunately there were also some tweets in support of her with quite a few likes/retweets so hopefully some sanity is getting through

[–]macaron 17 insightful - 1 fun17 insightful - 0 fun18 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I've seen some wishing detailed violence and such on her. It is truly sickening.

They won't even read what she actually wrote, which was thoughtful and compassionate. Scary stuff the way they are making her out to be a monster when the truth is right there.

I love the blue check people who support her! I have no clue who this actor is, but he's not pulling any punches!

I like how one of the top replies was about how much abuse trans people face on Twitter. Bruh, if you say “transwomen are men,” you get perma banned on twitter. Misgendering someone gets your account suspended. So, what is all this unfettered abuse trans people are getting? And, even if abuse was rampant, how does it excuse trans people abusing others?

[–]macaron 19 insightful - 1 fun19 insightful - 0 fun20 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Most of the abuse in the debate is from TRAs slung at women, who they call 'terfs' and wish to punch, rape and kill.

But to them misgendering is literal violence, while physically hurting terfs is justified.

I actually think you could get banned for saying transwomen are transwomen.

You definitely can get banned for saying "men aren't women though"

[–][deleted] 13 insightful - 2 fun13 insightful - 1 fun14 insightful - 2 fun -  (4 children)

Posie Parker got banned from Twitter for life and was visited by the cops at her house. This was in the UK.

edit: she didn't say TWAM, but she called bottom surgery castration.

[–]latuspodSuper Straight 10 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 0 fun11 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Meghan Murphy was the one banned for "saying men arent women though"

It just ridiculous that the only thing that gets you banned is wrongthink. Death threats, inciting violence, bigotry, none of that matters to Twitter, reddit, or Facebook as long as your opinions match the prescription that the TRAs propose.

[–]julesburm1891 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

It’s bonkers that that is what’s considered hateful speech worth banning.

[–]xanditAGAB (Assigned Gay at Birth) 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Murphy was even talking about yaniv when she was banned, Mr pedo.

For anyone interested, for more on the UK's craziness of the police policing 'wrongthink' regarding trans, look up Harry Miller. The police came to his work over 30 'transphobic' tweets and he got a record of a 'non-crime crime' attached to his name, which he fought in court. He's done a fair number of really interesting interviews on youtube about it.

[–]Dravidian 12 insightful - 1 fun12 insightful - 0 fun13 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

the more I think about it the more I think Rowling made a mistake here. Now all criticism can be redirected to "but she only said it to promote her book" and "yes but she wrote a transphobic character in her book". She helped peak people and I'm worrid they will now think it was just a ploy.

How can you say to people "she has valid concerns" when all they'll see is the man in a dress in her book?

[–]julesburm1891 11 insightful - 1 fun11 insightful - 0 fun12 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Agreed. I’d be willing to bet all my money that the TRA complaints are taken entirely out of context, exaggerated, and then bent even further. However, I kind of wish she hadn’t included a single thing trans people could pretend pertains to them. It would be better for the TRAs to freak out over literally nothing while regular people look on.

[–]8bitgay 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Now I kinda wish someone would write a similar work but explicitly based on real social media interactions. I'm sure she has received lots of threats on social media, she could easily turn these threats into characters.

It is nice, as people seeing how stupid it is. Sadly it is not #KillJKRowling - maybe then everyone would realize how toxic this TQ+ stuff is.

[–]materialrealityplz 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I basically read the RIPJKRowling hashtag as 'kill jk rowling' tbh.. (cause you see them wishing violence against her all the time)

I like how they tried so hard to cancel her but couldn't, so now they're so desperate to cope with the reminder that they're powerless and pathetic that they're trying to pretend that they ruined her to make themselves feel better
