Quality over quantity for me. I have little use for, and even less desire to see, gay stereotype characters. A character who happens to be lgb? Awesome. But so often, it is just done for diversity points and the lgb character is so over the top it borders on insulting. But what incentive is there for production companies to create nuanced, interesting gay characters? They get lauded and celebrated just for having a gay character no matter how stereotypical the portrayal is. I am all for more visibility for lgb people in media because it was something sorely lacking when I was growing up in the 90s, but so often it is done poorly.
