In a way, non-binary people are perpetuating the gender binary more than anyone trying to actively dismantle it. Non-binary says "Hey, the gender binary is what it is, I'm opting out of it (thereby leaving it intact)." There are those of us that are trying to promote this idea that men and women can still be men and women even if they don't "act" like men and women. But this viewpoint is now considered hateful.

The concept of non-binary totally negates the idea that there can be masculine women and feminine men, because now those people should be called "non-binary." And therefore, society's oppressive roles of man and woman remain utterly unchanged.

The truth is, non-binary is nothing new. "Non-binary" people have existed for millennia. However, the goal for the last 50 years among feminists and LGB theorists was to challenge the gender roles, the idea that men and women must behave in a certain way. Now, we're saying "Masculine is this, feminine is that, we're not going to challenge what those mean. Instead, we're going to call ourselves 'non-binary' people."

It also creates a NEW binary: non-binary v.s. binary. Lol.

I spent most of my life being 'tomboy' /gender non-conforming/ whatever the non-offensive term is nowadays. I always worked under the mentality that no matter what I'm doing, it's womanly, because I, a woman, am doing it. Whether it's repairing items or fixing my car by myself, or being the only woman employee in "a man's job" or whatever. I'm doing it, I'm a woman, therefore this is something women do, the end.

And now all these children are coming along to re-define me and my entire life as non-binary/enby/blah-blah-blah, and they are so deluded, they think they are the progressive ones and I am the backwards one. It's really sickening. I spent my whole life like "a woman can do almost anything" and these people are like "no, if a woman does xyz, that means she's actually not a woman." The fuck??? Unless xyz stands for "creates sperm" or "shoots fire out of butthole" IDEK.............

Back to the meme. You don't need to "Reshape cultural definition" I hate sounding trite but all you need to do is "be you" and just be like "yeah, I'm a dude who wears nail polish, and since I'm a dude, that means wearing nail polish is a thing that dudes do, since I am a dude, and I'm doing it." And then stand your ground. When enough people do that, the culture changes organically.

This is the very heart of my issues with nonbinary identities. If only these individuals stopped calling themselves by ridiculous labels and helped the rest of us challenge the social expectations placed on men and women, we'd be making progress in the right direction. But I guess that's too old-fashioned or something. I guess it doesn't win them oppression points and exclamations of "brave and stunning!"

they would rather gain victim points for being oppressed... Don't you know how hard it is to find non gendered footwear!!?!

You made me laugh out loud. Is that really an issue they have? xD Meanwhile, a religious cult is brainwashing my cousins into becoming breeding machines simply for being female, but yeah... Non-gendered shoes, I guess.

Yeah it was a non binary video made to shine the light on the oppressed lgbt. Probably part of a pride month series. I'll see if I can find it. She's all upset about the difficulties of clothes and barbers and sneakers lol. For us older people who remember how bad homophobia used to be she sounds absurd.

This is true. Enby really is just a way to avoid the social risk that comes with actually behaving differently than what is expected from stereotypes while getting the kudos and distinction from being labeled different, mainly because no one is remotely sure how you actually are different in practice, just that you're supposedly far from average and boring. Just a term to gaslight others on your own rarity.

They really throw the LGB under the bus because we have been the most punished for being gender-nonconforming, and adopting a fancy label doesn’t hide it. If an NB male dates another male, he is still a visible “homo” when he’s with his boyfriend. Enbys are just making conversations around same-sex attraction more annoying for the rest of the population (straight people), or even cause anxiety in straight people who are afraid to be “mean” and make “hateful” assumptions about orientation and be harassed for it. They are basically halting the normalization of same-sex attraction and actually setting us all back.

Their ultra-sensitivity about their superfluous label being misunderstood(shocking) are scaring away anyone who naturally would want to know more about same-sex attraction. They are like a line of mines between 2 camps who otherwise should be(and were for a time) talking to each other all the time. People become hostile to those they do not understand and enbies are not making things any easier.

Proof not of its veracity but rather that P. T. Barnum was right and there really IS a sucker born every minute!

We were doing that in the 90s and early 2000s, and then everyone just decided to forget all about that.

Now if your daughter wants to play rugby that's a sign that she's actually trans.

What a world.
