Reddit subs won't 'allow' a new account or one without enough Karma to post. This has a chilling effect on speech and I will not stand for it.

We were already chatting, but welcome. I highly recommend browsing by s/all or changing preferences->content options->home page to All.
First thing I used to do with a new Reddit account was farm a little bit of karma. r/AskReddit is usually good for a couple thousand without much effort. Just need to pick the right spots, visible places on the comment trees, in active threads, to insert stupid one-liner jokers or whatever kind of crap you see being upvoted.
Once you have a nice pile of karma you can say whatever the fuck you want without worrying about downvotes. However, this alarms the redditors. They do not understand why you are not terrified of downvotes. Unfortunately this usually results in bans, even without any rule breaking.
Not that I recommend using Reddit, but if that is your preference, don't let karma stop ya.

Hello again Muskrat, thanks for the tip, I think I kind of like how this might keep the subs less quarantined. The reddit stuff you mention really is also part of what turned me off to the community, it makes the interactions feel 'gamified' and less than satisfying. Been enjoying the discussions here on Saidit so far
