No matter what most places will end up curated to a certain extent. Having trolls stink up your posts isn't fun but having too much moderation also isn't fun. You have to find somewhere at the level you like it. Having been on the internet a while, I think the best places are the old school forums. Not everyone likes that format but I like how everyone has an equal voice. Nobody gets pushed at the top because they have a popular opinion. The moderation depends on the site owner. Take it or leave it. You can always start your own private forum if you're not happy.

I miss those too. You could do real deep dives in a subject because everyone queues up and says their piece.
