For some reason I thought I'd look up an old friend. Turns out he's still got it.

I was just listening to the Sisters Of Mercy track earlier in this sub, and my mind flashed back to a completely unrelated time. SoM was 10 years earlier in my life, which seemed like several lifetimes back then.
1996-2000 was the first time I lived in NYC. For some of that I worked at Curious ?ictures, home of the effects for the first Ghost Busters, Pee Wee, and the shit I was working on then. Boo Wong was managing the CG animation department. She usually looked like she just stepped out of a graphic novel and/or fashion magazine. She and I were the only ones at work who seemed to really get the profound breakthroughs the Matrix brought to the world. She was married (I think) to Voltaire and they had baby Mars.
To my point, we were doing some blacklight bowling for Voltaire's birthday and he showed us the simple trick to dancing goth. You really had to see it to get it all. He leaned back and swayed, drew his arms slowly up, and reached out, "You admire the kerchief, you wave the kerchief," miming the wave, and disdain, "You hate the kerchief! You throw the kerchief away." Dramatically spinning around, "You see the bat," and grasps at an invisible target but misses and looks after it, "You grab the bat," pulling it close, "You cradle the bat, you caress the bat, you love the bat, you reject the bat," throwing his arms away from him, and so on.
Everyone I ever repeated this demo to loved it, as I did, so if you don't love it you're not goth enough or my dancing while writing this for you sux. I guess you had to be there.
Anyway, I've met many more gothish volk at Burning Man and elsewhere but Voltaire always comes to mind for one of the best takes on it.
A lot of his creative work is terrific too. I need to catch up and see what he's been up to soon. He's a rock star, animator, artist, director, etc. While this post could also fit in /s/AnimatedShorts, /s/Art, /s/Cyberpunk, /s/Mexico, /s/Music, /s/Nostalgia, etc. This seems like the best spot.
there doesn't seem to be anything here
