I've got a similar disease. Good times aren't, usually there's a nagging fucking ache, pain, or down right sanity jarring discomfort.
That little girl will grow up, and see her friends move on, and grow, and she'll be chasing the ghosts within her own body; struggling to maintain a god damn good day; one in which she hopes she can make it through without having a 'ghost' steal her positive energy.
Just wait till her dog dies; the loneliness, and torment will be there; people will pay lip service, but they honestly don't care, and actually would rather her shut up. They'll beg her to be 'happier', and get on god knows what pharmaceutical pain killer; the doctors will even encourage rather than discourage like so many others.
I guess her lessons in life will be harsh, and in many ways solitary.
