Biological sex is baked in from the moment of conception. Gender is a cultural concept that changes across geography and time. Who wears what is a cultural concept and Anthony Bourdain did not become a girl no matter how many ladytools he touched in the kitchen.

I mean, right now, we get told that (1) there have been trans kids throughout history and (2) babies reach for a pink blankie or a blue blankie because they know their true gender before they can understand language.

Yet until World War I, Europeans and Americans viewed pink as the color most suitable for boy babies because it was a diminutive form of the male power color: red.

It was only after that not-so-great Great War that marketers began teaching consumers that blue was for boys and pink was for girls.

So what happened to the trans kids of the late 1920s and 1930s? There was some magical day when male infants stopped reaching for pink and started reaching for blue because... the brains they were born with... changed in the womb... due to Reasons?????
