That's a no brainer. Here in the province of PEI we have lots of wind. So the natural though is windmills everywhere.

20 years ago there was a major push by government to install them. Anyone who did has lost their shirt. Most importantly, there are no longer any local companies to service them... most now sit, not spinning, not generating a single watt of electricity. However, the bills for the loans people took are just now coming to and end.

For reference, when I looked into it back in ~2002 the bill was going to be $250 000 purchase cost (for a business) over 20 years, plus interest on the loan, plus a yearly servicing plan, plus an extended warranty plan, plus you still had to pay the electric company ~$50 month hookup surcharge, plus they wanted to under power us so you will still have ~$50 -$100/month power bill. (This scam worked on a credit system, extra credits you would lose after a year so that's why they would underpower you so you were not giving free power to the utility.)

It took all of 2 minutes to realize after all these cost it was just cheaper to buy the electricity. Pay off was 18-20 years with ~ 5 years of "free power" before you would have to replace the windmill. (Estimated lifespan of 25 years ...Estimated ) All these companies had folded after 3 years. Without someone for yearly servicing most stopped working within a year or two of them going bust.
