I mean with Snow White and Haunted Mansion, I refuse to believe someone didn't intentionally make them fail for some ulterior motive. It's like threading a needle of bad decisions, it simply can't have been done by coincidence or even incompetence. This level of fuck up HAS to be intentional.

Apparently they just rushed to make as much content for Disney Plus as they could.

Which is fine but them why release this stuff in cinemas and produce it at that level of quality?

Oh, I get that, and with Haunted Mansion that was clearly a huge part of the problem. When Iger came back and realized how much the financials of Disney Plus had been fudged he pulled back on advertising budget for films to try to recover losses to an extent. They planned on a summer release for two reasons both are B.S.

One is that the Haunted Mansion RIDE at Disneyland actually closes in September to open in October with a Christmas skin. This is beyond stupid in my opinion as now that Tower of Terror and Snow White's Scary adventures have both been rethemed into non-scary rides they have nothing whatsoever that is truly appropriate for Halloween. They even stopped putting a Ghost Galaxy skin on Space Mountain for Halloween.

Two is that this way Haunted Mansion releases on Disney Plus JUST before Halloween, showing they clearly view that as the real release of Haunted Mansion.

But here's the thing. I worked in Hollywood for over a decade. I'm also a huge Disney fan (a bit less since 2020, but I used to be). In fact in 2020 I was interviewing for a job as a Imagineer just before they shut down for Covid.

I still find it hard to believe there isn't a bigger plan here, an ill advised one but it has to be some sort of Disney plus related strategy that they are going for. It still just doesn't quite make sense to me though.

The other theory I heard is they are purposely letting their big shows fail because of the current strikes.

Basically if they show that big name actors can't bring people into the box office anymore then that undermines their negotiating position. Then they are letting Rachel Zegler run her mouth without any kind of guidance which also serves to turn the public mood against actors when they need the support.
