Japan is contemplating easing the visa entry restrictions for foreign students by the end of August 2020.
Many visa holders are complaining about not being able to return to Japan due to the travel restrictions imposed to contain the coronavirus. The new rules will, at first, apply only to the students who got sponsorship from the Japanese government.
In September, this will apply to all the international students who are residing in other countries and to the students who are unable to leave Japan because they are afraid that they may be unable to return to Japan. But according to the government officials, international students, if they meet specific requirements that can enter Japan by the end of this month.
Allowing international students to come to Japan is the second phase in the attempts made by the government to reopen the country's borders.
Japan has recently stated that it is going to ease the restrictions in agreement with the 16 Nations and regions, which include Vietnam and Thailand for business travelers.
Presently Japan is not allowing entry to the people from 146 countries and areas, including the residents who have a valid visa to the country. International students could not enter the country in spring as the imposition of travel restrictions was way stricter in the spring. However, the things are very optimistic right now in terms of getting entry into the country as the travel restrictions are going to be eased.
Foreign citizens who have resident status in the country will be allowed to enter Japan in September according to some government sources. Many people who left the country during the coronavirus pandemic were unable to come back due to the travel restrictions. Over 2 million foreign people are currently the residents of Japan.
International students around the world had to either post phone or cancel their study plan this year. Australia has also announced that it will ease the travel restrictions for international students as the first attempt to open the country's borders after the pandemic.
