It's not your personal budget. A trillion dollars is an insurmountable sum of money for us lowly serfs to own but there's an issue of scope when trying to apply that knowledge base of personal finance to that of a government.

The money given to Israel is a minor pittance.

The reason America is so invested is our Christian death cults. Amrageddon in these religions requires Israel to occupy the holy land. And the followers of this ideology can't bear the thought of just being NPCs in a long lived world. Things must end while they're alive or they become just minor footnotes in history at best. They realize they don't matter and will be forgotten and they can't stand that idea. They're so important!

Don't be their pawns.

I think the money given to Israel by USA is symbolism, they love their numerology. It's always 33 billion or recently Trump gave 3.3 billion, 33 means something to them. They don't need our money really, they can just print it, they do need natural resources tho and US's military, which is never audited, provides that.
