I'm sorry, but the last part about "don't open your freezer, and if it's thawed don't refreeze it" is some epic level bullshit. Now if it's a natural disaster, then okay, we get it. But if it's just the electric company shutting down your smart meter because muh global warming carbon footprint, then who the fuck is paying for the food lost? great way to starve peopl

Whether intended or not, much food is wasted during these power cuts, which have already been happening. I think it was last year, they blamed a very cold winter and heaters used too much power. But here in the southern states, most of us burn natural gas to produce the heat, and we need only a small amount of electricity to power the fans that circulate the air.

Will Britain do the same?

Britain Will Need Gas to Avoid Blackouts for Decades as Wind Power Falls Short 71% of the Year, Says National Gas Chief

Mr. Butterworth foresees a time when millions of ‘green’ heat pumps will be whirring away – but using un-green power produced in gas-fired power stations.

He said: “That is actually far less efficient than burning gas in your house. Domestic gas boilers are about 90% efficient but the best power station is about 50% efficient.”

We have TVA; nuclear, hydro, gas, and coal. We don't have power cuts.

The best way to stay warm(er) in winter power cuts is to set up a tent in your living room.

A tent with the door closed will create a microclimate in your home which can stay about 20-30 degrees warmer than the rest of the home.

Bonus points if you can include reflective materials like space blankets, etc.

A good idea.
Ten years ago, I lived over a year without energy.
Was easy, but had problems with frozen water pipes.
