What about the metaphorical or philosophical meaning of "soul".

I think philosophically the idea of a soul is actually illusory as well.

Lets say I were to put you in cryostasis, and make a perfect copy of you. Every single atom is the same, the arrangement is the same, you have the same memories, and the same state for every neuron and cell in your body. Have I copied a soul? I don't believe so. In fact, every measurable fraction of a second (when not in our imaginary stasis) changes the 'arrangement' and that makes up who 'I' am as soon as I so much as interact with a photon or fire a neuron. I don't think there is any such thing as a static soul or self, I think this phenomenon is an illusion of continuity created by our 'memory'.
