How to invest in Russian Securities?
submitted 2 years ago by naples from (self.AskSaidIt)
Looks like cancel culture is trying to make it difficult to buy Russian securities. But won't this then create a terrific buying opportunity? How best to get into the market?

You can't, the Russian Trading System (RTS) has been shut down since Feb 25th to keep it from crashing.
I looked into investing in Russia before this all happened, and investing in a tiny economy like Russia is a far worse deal than investing in the US.
Now you'd be looking at not only Russia's shitty ROI but the very real possibility your money would simply be seized by the Russian Government.

I just found this https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/1324.T?p=1324.T&.tsrc=fin-srch, a Russian ETF on the Tokyo exchange. I'm not sure how'd you go about buying it, but if you can it looks like you can get some exposure to the Russian economy.

Find an oligarch and tell him you can get his daughter a western passport.

I don't see how you would repatriate that money later unless you wait out the war. And I mean the greater reset war.
Also you would need to have technical knowledge about a lot of things to even begin to try. Not least of which is the ability to at least read Russian.
Russia has a central bank just like every other country, you have to take that into consideration. Money is fake and they can print as much as they want. This means they can make markets do counter intuitive things.
Poutine is also known for nationalizing and seizing private enterprise. That is a huge additional risk.
But I know that international brokers allows trading in foreign securities. You could try that, but I have no idea if there are sanctions or blockades in place.
