They are dysfunctional, broken, pitiful half-beings, who cannot feel love, and cannot experience / know what it is to be loved.

That's unsubstantiated. Very much in contrast with what we know as facts about him. This guy threw away his family like they were garbage, by his own actions. Now he's trooned out. I don't know how long it has been since he felt the touch, embrace and warmth of another human being. Tough talk. But that's all he has.
