My criticism, I'll probably regret posting this by LordGhoul in CringeAnarchy

I'll preface this by saying that I'm not an American.

Imo a site that has a rather negative bias towards (white) men or white people in general is buzzfeed.

Hi everyone. Since all of us here are looking at SaidIt as "how Reddit should've been all along", how do you think a proper social media should be, and what features it should, and shouldn't have? by DR3DDL0CC in AskSaidIt

Unfortunately, this would not work very well because it is incredibly easy to manipulate votes using bots.

Is this a dank meme? by sawboss in dankmemes

Is this a dank meme?

I do not want to gatekeep dank memes here, but these are my thoughts on the "dankness" of a meme:

A dank meme can generally be considered to be an inside joke with the internet. This means that a dank meme does not make sense to a person that is not familiar to internet culture.

Also, the "inside joke" factor of a meme can only apply to a specific website / forum / subsaidit, meaning that for people outside the meme will not be relevant.

Because memes are limited to single places, a culture around memes with further inside jokes can evolve.

To give a concrete example for this phenomenon: Over at r/dankmemes there has been the joke that the Duolingo mascot will come to life and punish you in real life instead of only being limited to the push-notifications on mobile, which is evident with the recent posts subjecting the mascot.

To come to the point on whether your meme is dank:

No, because it does not feature internet-specific jokes and can be understood by anyone due to this.

But if I am entirely honest, it is also very hard to create memes with an inside jokes when there is not already some prior activity or culture on the site.

Also, the whole idea of s/dankmemes is just a bit piggybacked off of r/dankmemes, which means that users that are not familiar with r/dankmemes will not know what to expect here.

Due to this I encourage everyone to be creative with any images and captions that they can find which are more or less relevant to the recent activity of the sub*, which will sooner or later lead to "dank" memes.

*This does not mean that you can't bring new ideas to the sub.

I would say there is a big difference between memes in general and "dank" memes. Today basically any picture with text is labeled as a meme, but that is not what I want here. Rage Comics or advice animals may be considered memes, but they don't offer a lot of possibilities for creativity or different punchlines.

An example for a good, or a dank meme would be this.

There is no fixed format (except maybe the image given as reaction), and the punchline is original.

However, advice animals as an example are "beaten to death" in the sense that everyone that knows memes knows what to expect from such a meme, which makes the punchline less effective.

TL;DR: original punchlines on more or less recent meme formats
