My truck is a “hurricane special.” I bought it new. But it was damaged from sitting on the dealer’s lot during Hurricane Laura.

Interesting. You got it at a discount?

Yes. The long story:

Late January 2021, Ford’s stock dropped 9% in one day. That will get your attention when you own $40,000 of it. The stock dropped due to the bad news: Ford was only going to make half the cars they planned to due to a chip shortage.

I was unhappy with my Jeep Wrangler due to poor reliability. I wanted an F150. So my thought was I’d better find it now while the car lots were full.

I got on the internet. Ford had $5500 rebates on leftover 2020 F150s with the STX package. I found just what I wanted in my Ford dealer’s inventory! It had an another $5000 discount that took account of the damage to a fender and scratches in the roof.

I paid their asking price and they added a trailer brake controller plus running boards at their cost.

So, a $46,000+ sticker price was sold for $36,000. I just shook my head, thinking that these folks don’t understand what is about to happen to their business. Their lot was packed with vehicles, but not for long.

Two months later, I couldn’t have bought that truck for $46,000 with the damage. Prices were skyrocketing. And nothing was in stock.

It cost me $1300 to repair the fender. The minor scratches in the roof didn’t go through the clear coat. I left them unrepaired; you can’t see them unless you climb up into the bed.

Oh yes, the government restrictions (which they blamed on COVID) created various shortages. But it looks like your timing was good for receiving a discount.

We recently repaired the front bumper on my wife's car and the price was similar to yours.... more than I would have expected to pay.
