Apparently 1 pound of crisco will burn for approximately 100 hours! You can literally stick a piece of cotton in some crisco and boom you have a long-lasting candle. This guy does an extra step of heating it to a liquid and then solidifying it again.

This guy just put a wick in a jar of crisco and lights it, lol. It works! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsY-d44SpeQ

You can do essentially the same thing with any type of rendered fat too. So you could do the same thing with lard, but cheaper.

Iirc the generic crisco and lard are about the same price.

Shit, if you want to do it yourself, do you happen to have acorns? You can press them for oil as well as ground them into flour.

I just made taco soup last night, and it occurred to me that while it was a fantastic budget meal, something like six hours went into making that since I cooked and shucked the ears of corn that were on sale and froze them, and the beans I cooked ranch style from dry. The taco seasoning I blended myself. The meat we make special trips to CostCo for.

It's a bargain costwise but a whole fuckton of effort went into it.

You should save your bacon anwyays fat though, shits tasty in cooking. I think this candle idea isn't great unless you're desperate, and then maybe still not a good idea if one happens to be on a boat.
