Why is "being paid" the default? It couldn't be that they're just that brainwashed into thinking they are on the right side of history, no it has to be paid.

Well, there is actually a lot of money in protesting. Often organisers will pay travel and other expenses to get people there. They are a bunch of grifters.

Probably both then. They believe they are the righteous saviors of the human race and people are paying their expenses to get there.

The implication the guy I was responding to was making was that the rhetoric is fake because they are paid when I don't think it is, they genuinely believe in what they are doing which is the saddest part.
