The article is a inaccurate in its claim. What happened is a lot of y chromosome lines got decimated during the Neolithic expansion, and the conquering males sons scooped up the hunter gatherer females and killed off the males. This sort of thing happened repeatedly, in vast population expansions and smaller tribal conflicts. The Yamna did it to Eurasia about 4.8k ago. Modern humans did it to Neanderthals.

This DNA pattern is actually a marker for repeated genocides that wiped out males. It's not that only a small number of males fathered kids. It's just that only young females survived the invasions.
