So... what's the point of this post? Just filling up saidit with pointless garbage to ruin it? Because that's what this looks like

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (7 children)

Okay.

First, look at Einstein. Second, look at the absurdity of the quote. This entire thread has been stupid from it's inception. Intentionally, without any doubt, at least for reasonably intelligent folks. I've not tried to pull one over. I've not tried to push disinformation or misinformation anywhere else on SaidIt. I have provided my best effort, to the best of my abilities and my knowledge, and on occasion thrown in some comedy (or tried to) but never disinfo. I guess this one failed, in part because it was pushing absurdist disinfo, mixed with a bit of legit info. I hardly think one obviously silly post out of countless others is filling up or ruining SaidIt. Honestly, I'm shocked anyone's bit at this and that it's gone on as long as it has. Especially when, IMHO, I've offered far more interesting other stuff to discuss. But few have engaged. Not that it's a flaw or criticism, but it seems to me SaidIt users are usually more into posting than commenting/discussing.

If I've broken some rule(s), written or unwritten, I apologize. With all seriousness. It's not my intention to rock this boat. I want to rock the establishment, or better get rid of it. Also, I've never advocated violence, though I do advocate Natural Law self defense in general and against the monopoly on violence. Perhaps I shouldn't have used the word "fist" as it's also brings to mind things other than ridiculously crazy gonzo sex acts. Also, I didn't say anyone did violence upon him, though perhaps I should have better directed the implications that he was into self-inflicted kinky shyza, according to no one but my apparently not-very-funny sense of humour that is twisted like Twizzlers.

If I need to repent and make up for it, tell me how. If my noob Reddit skills need refining, please inform me or point me to something to digest. If I'm reading too much into this I'd also like to know and where I stand. Ideally, if this post was an actual "offensive incident" for lack of knowing what better to call it, I'd be fine with understand a little more on why, and I'll make every effort not to break whatever protocols again, and we can put this behind us.

Tell me how I can help make it right if it's wrong.

I just don't see the point, I guess I just find it gross and not funny and not really contributing anything or even making any point, and potentially diluting actual content. That's all. On reddit they call that shitposting. And a big part of the point of saidit is to get away from shitposting, because it's a primary tactic used by groups to intentionally dilute and destroy forums. I'm not accusing you of this, but rather bringing it to your attention so you see why I care. We're not going to allow things like that to fester on saidit because we know we can be destroyed in to irrelevancy, and real information becomes buried in the noise, if we allow such low-quality posts to flourish on saidit.

I know you were probably just making a harmless joke, and you've posted lots of good stuff, so I don't really care so much. But I have seen a lot of subs on reddit destroyed by people using this tactic and "trusted" users eventually overwhelming the sub with bullshit in a very creeping fashion. We're not about to let saidit be destroyed in a similar way.

This is nothing against you personally, but rather against this type of content. We're trying to cultivate a certain level of quality and intelligence here, and posts like your OP are seriously not helping. If you want to post like this type of OP, go to voat or reddit or 4chan and save your best for saidit

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

There was no point. I care too. By any definition it was a "shitpost", though I didn't think of it as such at the time as it was meant to be funny and forgotten. But as we all know a lot of bad comedy is just stupid and gross. My bad. And to my shame.

I may be the creep who posted this, but I'm not a creeper as I went straight for the worst. It's good that you're vigilant for the creepers. I think I may have made a joke or few in comments elsewhere that were not classy too, though they may have actually been funny. Regardless, your points are well taken and I understand this "prudishness" has a purpose that I sincerely respect for very practical reasons and will endeavour to keep SaidIt classy hence forth.

For a broader context, and more shame on me, this is sort of an inside joke, though only I would know about the inside part, though the crass joke should have been obvious. Starting in animation college (yes you can go to school for that), some would have motivational posters with quotes. Then some of us would make ridiculous quotes that obviously weren't from that person, as I did. Naturally this escalated into absurdity. (ie. Thomas Edison, "I punch myself in the nuts because it hertz so good.") Oddly it didn't stop in college. I don't know if it's an animator thing or what, but usually you can count on 2 things in an animation studio: stupid quotes and a ridiculous number of monitor pets - toys on top of and around monitors, from before they all went flatscreen. Like pinup girls in automotive repair shops. I didn't do the quotes much and definitely wasn't and am not into the action figures. Anyway...

So somehow or other, I landed in the quotes section here. All good stuff. I didn't think before I jumped into it. Also I went straight to gonzo with no build, in part for comedy/shock value, in part so as not to be mistaken as legit, and in part because I didn't expect to spend any time here. Just a quick little thing that I expected to be passed over and forgotten. If I'd known it'd be noticed I would have at least tried to be more clever. Also, if you've noticed most of my verbose posting have citations and effort, so I'm not usually so sparse and lazy. If in the future I post a quote, you bet it will have a source. My quick joke ultimately was blowback on me.

Worse still was that it was a "post" rather than a little "comment". If you want to delete this post I certainly wouldn't object getting rid of the evidence of my stupidity. Or you can use it as a teaching tool of what noob chuckleheads should not to do.

Thanks for explaining it clearly and for tolerating my carelessness. I sincerely regret it and am embarrassed by it now.

Here's some additional irony. That first video I loved so much ( /s/WorldPolitics/comments/89g/honest_government_ad_anti_encryption_law/ ) featured a lot of swearing and I even learned some new Aussie phrases. I loved it immensely. And yet I even went so far as to comment on it...

I love everything about these (I'll be binge watching the rest of them soon enough) and aim to be on par in every way but one. I don't mind the swearing and find it appropriately funny. But I intend to avoid swearing on my own project to keep it accessible, classy (right), and let the outrageous manipulation and exploitation of the corporatocracy be offence enough.

Boom. Double shame on me for being a hypocrite.

Again, sorry.

Also, I don't know what an "OP" is.

[–]magnora7 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

Thanks, I'm glad you understand and we're on the same page now. I appreciate it, I really do.

My fault, OP is reddit slang, it means "Original Post", here referring to the Einstein picture and associated title.

Anyway, I appreciate your thoughtfulness and self-reflection, as does saidit. :) All the best to you

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

We can still have fun, but with a modicum of decorum.

[–]magnora7 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Exactly. There's plenty enough outlets for low-brow fun already out there, saidit is our chance to try and make something smart

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I hope I'm not beating a dead horse...

I can aim high with my "Trutherism 101" project and be still pleased to fall short in shadow of George Carlin, and while I don't care about collecting or granting points for whatever reasons, I still do participate with the two icons. I'd mentioned how I'd like more options that just "insightful" and "funny". I'm now guessing you just re-coded thumbs up and thumbs down. From day one I've wanted to simply "like" or acknowledge and appreciate something that isn't necessarily insightful nor funny. I don't know if it's a big pain to fuss with it, if it's even worth bothering with, or if you want to put it to a vote. I'd like a "like" button. If it replaced the "funny" button I wouldn't mind. If there was another thing that was not "dislike" and also not "insightful" I don't know what it might be. Perhaps "exceptional". That may mean all the points might need a reset. Maybe I'm overthinking things. One thing is certain, people will be funny, serious, political, etc. regardless. I don't know if a funny button is necessary here.

Also, I'm not saying that people trying to be funny may shit post or that it's necessarily related. That was my error. But I have been reflecting on the nature of humour and/or decorum. Not just for my embarrassment here, but for my project and life in general. Talking about truth-seeking is like talking religion and for some reason you can insult people's taste in music or politics but some things are "sacred", like authority. With Xmas around the corner and family members deeply indoctrinated, despite attempts to avoid it my trutherism will likely be discussed. And for that whether they embrace it or not, most people either get it or don't. Like humour.

Wallowing in guilt doing my other stuff, reflecting, an apt comparison came to me.

(Leaving aside all deeper esoteric skeptical analysis and prudish judgments) most would agree:

1) DisneyLand is fun. (Or the movies, or whatever you find fun.)

2) Sex is fun.

3) You don't have sex at DisneyLand (and drag people into it).

I'd never thought about it this way before. I'm just used to it everywhere in comment sections, and honestly I thought much of it was funny (not that I did much of it) and that others were simply hypersensitive and judgmental, maybe even SJWs.

Sometimes it's nice to get a cold shock to verify, reassess, and realign your ethical center. I still like swear for emphasis, but it's never been a compulsion or without purpose.

The Internet is full of stupid and funny shit.

Please Keep /s/quotes Clean <3

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

This is where I learned about "shitposting". I could have taken it down, but it's a good learning tool.

[–]Tom_Bombadil 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

As depicted in this photograph; Einstein was cunning, and a lunguist.

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

On a serious note, I wish I could recall where but someone broke down a perspective new to me about the linguistic angle of Noam Chomsky and how linguistics and the meanings of things and all that tie deeply into spin and propaganda. But they said it far better. It seems obvious now but I'd never tied his "activism" with his "linguistics" before, even though I knew he was a limited hangout ever since the first time I saw him deny that 9/11 was worth study - as if anything else could be more important, causing a global terror war.

I think it was either the most recent The Antidote podcast episode or slightly more likely the most recent Myth Of The 20th Century podcast episode. Unless they've released another in the last 3-5 days.

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (6 children)

I'm pretty sure he said it. Though it might need a citation or few.

[–]Mnemonic 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

No, you are not Einstein!

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 1 insightful - 0 fun1 insightful - -1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun -  (4 children)

You need some citations to back that up. (Onto my fist.)

[–]Mnemonic 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Einstein Died on 18 April 1955 (aged 76) in Princeton, New Jersey, US

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Einstein

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

And how do you think he died? Sure, that's when he died, but that's the cover story. The answer, starts with an F and ends with a IST.

[–]Mnemonic 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Sure, veiled internet threats about physical violence got to him...

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 1 insightful - 0 fun1 insightful - -1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun -  (0 children)

Veiled? Threats? Violence?

You mean lust.

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 1 insightful - 0 fun1 insightful - -1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun -  (11 children)

He also said, "Incest is best, keep it in the family, cause it's all relative," and then he married his underage cousin.

Most of that is true. Look it up.

[–]Mnemonic 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (9 children)

They married in 1919 after being in a relation ship from 1912, She was born 1876.

The quote again is made by you, not Einstein.

There are enough things to dislike Einstein for and even slander him if you so must, why make stuff up?

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 1 insightful - 0 fun1 insightful - -1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun -  (8 children)

But it was his cousin, right?

Genius!

Maybe I'm confusing him with the pedos Jerry Lee Lewis or Charlie Chaplin. Seriously, they were.

[–]Mnemonic 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

His cousin was 3 years older and they got together in the +- 40ies. It's not hard to look up this kind of stuff.

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 1 insightful - 0 fun1 insightful - -1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun -  (0 children)

I know right. Creepy AND kinky.

[–]Desdinova 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (5 children)

Jerry Lee Lewis or Charlie Chaplin.

Don't forget Ted Nugent and Jimmy Page!

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (4 children)

Wow. Didn't know that.

Gosh this is an old post. My first and only "shitpost" before I learned what that was and that it's not acceptable - at least in serious subs.

[–]Desdinova 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

I wouldn't really consider this a "shit post". It doesn't sidetrack the discussion, it just adds an anecdote to it. At least I hope it's not what people are thinking of when they talk about unacceptable posts.

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

Not "shit post" as in shitty lousy content. "Shitpost" as in stirring up trouble. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shitposting

It is an embarrassment of sorts, explained within these comments - yet I didn't delete/withdraw it as I feel it's a perfect example of what not to do - a learning experience to share. (I was new to SaidIt culture, having not been on Reddit nor on forums much before this.)

[–]Desdinova 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Yes, I get the meaning. I just interpreted it more as a humorous aside as opposed to an attempt to stir up trouble. I truly like the idea of keeping comments on saidit from becoming the mess reddit become, but OTOH I don't think if we should over analyze every post. If you didn't feel like you were trying to shit post then you weren't. Only you know the true answer to that, but I certainly did not take it that way.

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

You interpreted correctly.

Also, I was finding that a lot of posts were of common misattributions and indirectly making fun of that, though I don't recall if I actually stated that here.

Since then I think someone made a /s/FakeQuotes or something like it but I couldn't find it specifically.

I love a lot of quotes that aren't real so I always check first to find out if they're valid or not.

I'm glad you didn't take it that way (unlike Einstein :P). It was a manic moment and lack of judgment for a bawdy jab at hyperintellectualism.
