It's either a quote or it's not. When you start interpreting the meaning then it's no longer accurate, even if we can all agree the meaning is the same. There's no shortage of quotes that are generally in the spirit of who they're wrongfully attributed to, but if they didn't say it, then it's not a quote.

And I'm not even talking about selectively quoting and cropping quotes.

It's not bunk if you prefer accuracy to fiction. I agree, it's not the best article, but it's raising some points that I've been trying to promote within this /s/quotes like verifications and citations. Some quotes are excellent, but not authentic. Look back and see what I mean.
