No, empire-building. Neo-Latitudinarian constructionism. The idea that Americanism goes hand-in-hand with interventionism, empire-building and the continuance of governance at the expense of the constitution. Most congressmen and women, GOP and Dems are of this kind.

I feel like imperialism is a better nomenclature, although mercantilism is not really different. While the United States has definitely picked up that way of thinking and acting from the other powerful countries in the 19th and early 20th centuries, I think it is a distraction to name it after Johnny come lately. Certainly not defending the USA's involvement in this way of thinking and acting, just saying that it is pretty well documented that the policy and the problems it causes date back through thousands and thousands of years.

Otherwise we're in agreement. What I like to call neo-colonialism is definitely the problem.
