Did they get it right?

Yes they did.

A mentally ill criminal who had been trespassing in the neighborhood

The three convicted murderers did not see him trespass in the house that was under construction. The three convicted murderers did not see Arbery commit any crime therefore they had no business chasing him and blocking him in with their trucks as he tried to ran away from them.

attacked an armed man when confronted.

Arbery was defending himself against someone with a gun who had no legal right to chase him with a shotgun.

The jury didn't get to know all the facts.

The jury had the relevant facts they needed to know to come up with a guilty verdict.

If Arbery had been a white man this trial wouldn't have happened.

If Arbery was a white man, it would not have taken a video of the killing making its way to the internet for there to be an arrest.

They had heard about the trespasser and the burglaries. They saw someone suspicious and they attempted a citizen's arrest. They didn't do a great job of it, but life in prison for three people is harsh considering the circumstances. It'll probably get overturned on appeal when all the race baiting simmers down.

They had heard about the trespasser and the burglaries.

Therefore killing Arbery is legally justiied?

They saw someone suspicious and they attempted a citizen's arrest.

They saw a black man running in their neighborhood. That does not legally justify attempting a citizen's arrest. In order to legally conduct a citizen's arrest, the citizens must witness someone committing a crime. The gunman testified that he did not see Arbery commit a crime.

but life in prison for three people is harsh considering the circumstances.

Life for killing someone is not harsh at all.

It'll probably get overturned on appeal

Odds are it wont, appeals are rarely successful. Saying the case will probably get overturned on appeal is wishful thinking.

I bet you thought that about Cosby too. These media circus, politically motivated trials all deserve to be examined with a microscope.

I don't know about legally justified, but holy fuck, life in prison... It's not like they went to lynch a black man for being in a white neighborhood, dude was sketchy.

People aren't lawyers intimately versed in law. They were under the belief they were acting lawfully. Intent matters.

Also, an innocent person wouldn't keep running. He'd just reasonably explain himself and then that's it, or wait for the cops to clear things up.

Life for killing someone is not harsh at all.

It's 4 lives wasted, 3 of them in costly confinement. Who the hell wins?

thats EXACTLY what it was like. did you even read anything about this or watch the video?

dude was sketchy.

maybe. but you know what? i work with tons of sketchy people every day. i dont chase them down and shoot them. crazy right?

Also, an innocent person wouldn't keep running. He'd just reasonably explain himself and then that's it, or wait for the cops to clear things up.

this falls under the 'trolling/stupid/or actually serious' umbrella i mentioned elsewhere in the thread.

It's 4 lives wasted, 3 of them in costly confinement. Who the hell wins?

ok, now i know which of those options this is!

I bet you thought that about Cosby too.

lol, Cosby had a deal with the old prosecutor that if he spilled his guts giving testimony he would not have been prosecuted. New District Attorney comes in and violated a previous agreement. The new District Attorney goes to use Cosby's words against him in court that was supposed to not be used against him in a criminal proceeding. How is that relevant towards Arbery's case? Apples and oranges. The three killers had an agreement deal that was violated by a new District Attorney? Appeals are still rarely successful, I don't see how the three murderers will have their convictions overturned. It's wishful thinking believing they will "probably" have their conviction overturned.

These media circus, politically motivated trials all deserve to be examined with a microscope.

It will be which is why the convictions will most likely stand.

I don't know about legally justified, but holy fuck, life in prison...

Life is the penalty for murder, Southern states are heavyhanded with it comes to dolling out punishment.

It's not like they went to lynch a black man for being in a white neighborhood

That's why they are eligible for life and not death. If they went to lynch a black man then they would have been facing the death penalty. Life in prison is a fair sentence. If the three did not want life then they should have sought a plea deal before going to trial.

People aren't lawyers intimately versed in law.

Ignorance of the law is no excuse to escape liability for their action.

They were under the belief they were acting lawfully.

They were wrong and faced the consequences.

Also, an innocent person wouldn't keep running.

People chasing someone with their truck with guns. Arbery did what most people would do when faced with something like that. Arbery ran, flight or fight kicked in and he chose to run. People run when they're scared.

He'd just reasonably explain himself and then that's it

There is no reasoning with some psycho chasing someone with their truck yelling at someone.

Who the hell wins?

Law and order wins, three men are facing life for murdering an innocent man whose crime was going out for a jog.

Shalom
