I can't read Trump's mind of course but isn't it possible that those returning troops will be used to round up and jail the "peaceful protestors"?

Sure, but there is nothing like troops fresh from a hostile-fire zone to put the fear into a bunch of "mostly peaceful protestors." As my friend Sgt. Stokes used to say: @#%* man, they pay me $65 a month to be hostile.
