Here is a long interview with Melanie Phillips on why she left the left. It confirms what I’ve been noticing, that people leave the left not because they have been persuaded by right-wing rhetoric, but because they have become dissatisfied with the left.

This shift from left to right reminds me of Peggy Noonan describing being on a bus of lefties headed to DC for a protest, when she suddenly had an epiphany and then later became a speech-writer for Ronald Reagan whom she apparently adored. She is a heck of a writer but I did not always agree with her. Anyway, we have to remember that belief in the left/right division is a false dichotomy.
