The history of modern cosmology seems to be that people a few hundred years ago got enthused about the ideas of some ancient Greek philosophers, indulged in various idle speculation and circular reasoning schemes based on them, constructed an alternative mathematical model for tracking the movements of wandering stars and then suppressed any alternatives when it became apparent that it was all a fantasy.
