Humans are such social creatures that a useful way of categorizing the things that humans interact with on a day to day basis is social vs non-social (or natural). People who hate society have nothing left to appreciate but nature. But ironically, if you want to make a living studying nature, this is one of the things that requires the most approval from society to do.
A person who studies nature is called a scientist. And getting a job as a scientist requires some of society's most prestigious credentials such as a PhD, post-doc, tenure, and whatever work the scientist does needs to be approved by peer-review authorities. If his work doesn't conform to the social norms of the scientific community, if he conveys his ideas in an unusual way, or if he doesn't cite his work in the proper format, then he cannot have a career as a scientist. So ironically the profession that is in name about studying nature, is one of the professions that require the most extreme submission to social norms (which is the opposite of nature).
