CATTLE DEAD in Texas after grass fire. Was the smoke really that bad to cause large animals to die outdoors from "smoke inhalation"? ~ I have burned dead grass and leaves on my property and yet I am still alive....

It depends how long you breathed smoke, these cows were CO poisoned over days

The main product of combustion is not CO, but CO2.

CO is what's poisonous

I made myself sick once with a fire in my fireplace that wasn't properly vented

CO is poisonous, but normal combustion produces CO2, which is not nearly as dangerous.
