Punk was mostly controlled op, only few notable exceptions to this would be Sex Pistols and Joy Division, the only ones who are wildly popular yet you DON'T see them when you google "punk bands", and The Misfits, who are not political band.

Yeah, and punk as we see it today is heavily infected with the idea that to be punk you must be left-wing - even if the establishment is itself left-wing. That's why Johnny Rotten's support for Trump was decried as a spectacular betrayal. We're left with a bizarre situation, rebellion and individuality being expressed by siding with governments and corporations.
