I agree that they matter very much.

A third gender (ie. India recognizes a 3rd gender) should perhaps participate in sports only against other 3rd gender athletes, as they would naturally beat female competitors (as has happened), and might not be competitive against male competitors.

As an obese couch potato (this is my sexual identity, not male nor female), I am not competitive in any of those three categories. We need one gender for each individual, so 8 billion genders should suffice.

You would qualify as a 4th gender - hermaphrodite - but we're not supposed to call you that. Instead, you would be 'intersex', but this also includes people of the 3rd gender, and could confuse the sex assessment process. When in due course there is a sport for couch potatoes, you may have to petition for your inclusion as a 4th gender. Because - if the sport would include, making yourself pregnant, you would have an obvious advantage over genders 1, 2, and 3.
