What's a bugman?

just boils down to nihilistic consumerism little different than the bugmen queueing up for the next iphone

Like the fucks who make cigars and bourbon they don't even like expensive?

I think men want to wear jewelry too without being feminine or looking like a swarthy Persian rug merchant.

Once watches were useful, but now they're what the kids would call an aesthetic. So jewelry, especially because clockwork mechanisms -- as awesome as they are aesthetically -- don't keep time as well as the shitty little 25 cent gumball machine watches they used to sell, or a $5 Casio when Casio used to be cheap and not also collected.

Collecting them, well, they actually don't seem to be a terrible store of wealth, even investment, although I imagine the market keeps shrinking.

Collecting watches is an old person hobby. What collections are people showing off today? Their games.

It has had a resurgence lately and a lot of younger people are big into watches now. It used to be a case of "You collect watches? Move over, granddad" whereas now it's more like "Move over granddad, I want your watch collection."

Yes a watch out of a happy meal is literally a superior timekeeping device than a Rolex, which is a somewhat absurd aspect of the hobby.

And of course we all carry around access to precision atomic clocks, our phones, the timekeeping generally works flawlessly without any effort.
