They're the same people settled in different areas. "Austria" = "Osterreich" (Eastern Kingdom)

As I understand it 'Germany' is a collection of 300 city states unified under Otto Von Bismark. 300 City states that for the most part were never subjugated. Not by the Huns. Not by the Romans. Austrians are Germans the same way Belgians are Germans the same way the Nordic tribes are Germans. Genetic testing shows the dutch are German as well. In fact most of Europe is German. Calling people 'German' was a little like a precursor to calling someone white. It's a term that encompasses a lot of smaller ethnic groups that have co mingled significantly and of course it's a political and geographic term.

British people are German too. At least half or so are almost totally German. The Angles and Saxons invaded the east of the Island and would go on to dominate politics there. To this day there's more 'Anglos' in the east then there are Celts. The Celts, Scots, Iberians, and most all european people share Germanic blood. Some are more Germanic then others though.

Some people share German blood but are not German. One of those groups: The Ashkenazim Jews. They bred into German lines with the sole intent of subverting and destroying Germanic peoples, their custom and culture. You can't be of a group that you seek to destroy even if your blood might share some markers of that group.

The Germans of that country are descended from settlers from all the German tribes, even though the Bavarian tribe contributed the major portion. That German Reich was finally broken up in the course of a gradual dissolution by Napoleon, the Corsican, but continued to exist as a German federation, and not so long ago fought and suffered in the greatest war of all time as a political entity that was the expression of the national feelings of the people, even if it was no longer one united state. I myself am a child of that Ostmark.

Not only was the German Reich beaten down and Austria broken up into its component parts by the criminals of Versailles, but Germans were also forbidden to acknowledge that community to which they had declared their adherence for more than a thousand years. I have always regarded the elimination of this state of affairs as the greatest and most sacred task of my life. I have never failed to proclaim this determination, and I have always been resolved to realize these ideas that haunted me day and night.

No. Germans are the descendents of Germanic tribes who settled the lands of Germany, i.e the land between Rhine and Oder-niesse, between the Kiel Cannal and the Alps. They are descended from the Nordic tribes that left the Jutland peninsula before the days of the Roman republic.

Germans are genetically a mix of Nordics and Alpinids, North Germans are more nordic and South Germans are more Alpinid. The Dutch are Germans who developed a different accent and a merchant culture in isolation.

Only they were ever called Germans. The other Nordics were considered as Vikings and Scandinavians. They formed the Kalmar Union to better defend against German expansion and military power. The French are mainly Gauls with a significant German input in the North. They however adopted the Latin language and became a different nation. They were never considered Germans by anyone.

Spain and Italy has very little German blood owing to the limited Visigothic and Lombard settlements respectively. They never spoke German and no one ever considered them as such.

The English are a tricky case. Anglo-Saxon England was pretty much Germany the Island. The language was very similar to German and so were the customs. If the Norman invasion never happened, England would probably be seen as an extension of the Holy Roman Empire. However, after the Norman yoke, half the words in English were infused with French.

Genetically its dicey on the English. Genetically they are mostly descended from the pre-Saxon brythonic Celtic peoples. The Germans imposed their language but their genetic presence wasn't overwhelming. Most German invaders were men and they bred with the local women. Only about 30-40% of the English Y-Chromosomal genome can be traced to Germany. The female line is almost completely Celtic

Ban evasion is an insta ban salos. If you're not salos this is your official warning for violating rule 2 and rule 3. If you genuinely don't know the gripes that Germans have with Jews than make a full thread asking users to explain their position. Don't troll comments with smug tone policing comments like '?what the fuck ?!'.

One very common anti debate tactic is to constantly make opponents re-explain their positions in length (wasting their time). I've seen you ask similar questions over and over even though people have painstakingly explained these positions to you. If you keep it up you will be banned.

They're both ethnic Germans, albeit with their own regional cultural and linguistic variations. The main "dividing line" (not really a rigid cultural, linguistic and genetic border, but more of a continuum) within the German peoples, however, isn't Germans and Austrians, but High Germans (southern Germany, Austria and most of Switzerland) and Low Germans (northern Germany and the Netherlands (the Dutch/Diets people, a subgroup of Low Germans)).

Since the English are mostly descended from Low German subgroups, albeit with Scandinavian and Celtic admixture, it could be argued that the English are technically Germans as well. Scandinavians (North Germanic) are NOT German, but they're definitely Germanic just like the Germans. German is basically the same thing as West Germanic, ethnically speaking.

Austrians are basically a Bavarian offshoot, who are one of the ancient Germanic tribes. The north south-divide is obviously different from the east-west divide and as such, south Germans are a bit more hearty, maybe even more industrious but generally an interesting mix of conservative and liberal (not in the modern sense of the words!) values.

If there'd be an Anschluss 2.0, it would happen faster and with less hiccups than with the reunification of east and west in 89-90.

A lot of the explanations are good, ethnically Austrians are a sub-group of Germans but I'd like to add they have developed a strong sense of separate national identity due to being politically separate from the rest of Germany since the Brothers War in the mid-1800s which led to Prussia's domination over Germany. This was also later greater enforced post-WW2 by the Allied powers.

However, I believe Hitler himself always saw himself as a German and did not identify with the Austrian identity especially due to its ties with the multicultural Dual Monarchy and the Hapsburgs.

They're part of the same nation. The German nation is a hybrid of mainly two races, the Nordics and the Alpines. Northern Germany is more Nordic genetically, Southern Germany is more Alpinid. Some German tribes from the north settled in the land known as Austria and Germanized it. It was the Eastern march of the Germanic realms against the Slavs of Bohemia.

Ostreich, meaning eastern realm. The Austrians are ethnically German, like the Bavarians are. They're less Nordic than say a German from Hamburg or Mecklenburg are, but they're still still German by dint of shared history, culture, language and blood. North Germans like Pomeranians or Frisians are genetically identical to Danes and Dutchmen.

Southern Germans are genetically similar to Northern French. However, Northern French, North German, South German...all these groups are very similar genetically as are all Northwest Europeans who all descend from the Bell beaker culture. So, within NW Euros, the dividing line between nations boil down to a shared history, culture and language.

Austrians are as German as any other, they ruled Germany for 300 years under the Habsburgs after all.
