Well he definitely is now.

I think he created it, and once it got a certain size he got approached by people who offered to make him a billionaire.

That's how these projects usually go, they don't start them from scratch. They just co-opt the people who are on the obvious rise.

It's much more than that. Facebook launched right after DARPA closed a project that it was working on, which was almost identical to Facebook.

I concur, the very fact that every media outlet anywhere was promoting social media, social media, social media, social media, and then facebook, facebook, facebook.
