Not just the west anymore. While starvation is obviously an issue for those suffering from it, it does affect a lot fewer people than it did when I was a kid in the previous century. All while a lot of farm land around me goes fallow because people aren't farming as much as they use to in my area.

It isn't that much like oil... even though oil is also a regenerative commodity. But food is way more regenerative.
