they can be catholic and also be jewish. It depends if you are talking about the jewish race or the jewish religion. catholicism was created by people of the jewish race to control and persecute the early christians, some of whom, were also of the jewish race. yes there are jewish christians.

it was constantine who basically gave its political and financial powers to the papacy, three whole centuries after the time of christ.

at first it was nero and other pagan roman emperors (most notably diocletian) who were killing the christians. these emperors were definitely not jews nor were the majority of those early christians they killed..
