I'm still not convinced. What are the protesters doing that's making a mockery of the anti-lockdown movement?

You mean how everyone is constantly making fun of it and belittling it, and that's now the mainstream cultural opinion about these protests?

They don't need to stage protests to create this effect: just wait for actual protests to occur, and then activate the propaganda machine. Plus, if the truth comes out, it creates the sentiment that those protestors were right all along. All in all it seems like an unnecessary risk.

It's so early and so obviously jumping the gun, and then also the characters involved were all ridiculous stereotypes that were easy for the media to make fun of. Which will then deter later protests of a similar nature because many people are preconditioned to believe such a protest is a bit silly now.
