True, it seems unlikely that corona will kill that many people, certainly in one year. But part of the reason why that is unlikely is because measures are taken to prevent it. Additionally, it would be rather annoying to be sick for weeks, be ventilated in a hospital, and potentially suffer permanent loss of lung capacity, even if you don't die from it. And let's not forget that this is a new thing. Unknown threats are scary, that is simply human nature.
