Teenager gets a new car. Electric. Battery fails. Shop says they cost more than the car is worth AND are not available. 60k miles on the car, it otherwise works fine. Expect to see lots more of this sort of story.

Yeah the trade in value of electric cars is gonna suck when people realize they are about as good as a pre-owned cordless power tool. It's all about the crapped out battery and the prohibitive cost of replacing it.

$14k battery if you could find one but you can't
If you buy an electric car used, you are practically begging for exactly this to happen to you!
A junkyard engine will run with no modification after sitting a few years. A junkyard battery will be possibly dead and irrepairable just from sitting for too long.
