If they brought back the law in the US where news stations had to give equal coverage to both sides of every issue I'd support forcing social media companies to subsidize legacy news here, but the legacy media is so awful these days so I don't.

It's clear they have no interest in being fair and honest anymore. The loss of viewership and sponsors is on them. I'm more into independent journalism nowadays.

Looking more into this, it's Meta's boycott on Canadian news because of The Online News Act that would force big internet companies to reach deals with Canadian news outlets in order to share, post and preview their content on their platforms.

I think the way this will net out is by giving a boost to Canadian independent media, so for once I say GO ZUCK!
