The Slow Implosion of the European Union. Brexit sent shock waves throughout Europe because it was the beginning of the realization among Europeans that it didn’t have to be this way, life could be different and it was in their power to make it so.

It wasn't brexit that destroyed the union, it was the fact that the EU was pushing constant anti European policies. It is intensely corrupt. The mass migration is nothing short of invasion. The planned European Military is nothing short of a power grab intended to solidify the power of those who control the EU. It is constantly attacking the sovereignty of member nations. Concentrated power is always corrupted, but the speed with which the EU became corrupted is staggering.
In the 90s I was the biggest fan. I saw great potential. Especially in the idea that the west could fund the rapid modernization of the east which was severely stunted by decades of Communism. And in return the greater productivity would then be paid back through taxes, and participation in shared projects. I thought people moving around (a reasonable amount of people) within member countries would improve the relationships between countries through familiarization. So long as those who moved integrated into the host country and were good, law abiding people it would be hard for the media to demonize that entire group.
Instead more socialist counties started leaching off the more industrious ones. Massive migration from outside Europe became unstoppable because of corruption within EU leadership that now had the power to fuck over all countries. The immigrants refuse to integrate and the media attacks Europeans if they complain about it. It's insane.

The fact is you were sold a lie.
The whole point of the EU is for Germany to keep it's industrial sector and France to keep its farms. More socialist counties leaching off the more industrious ones is literally how the thing is set up to work from the beginning, it didn't just happen by accident a few years back. And the part you are missing is the industrial countries really are the ones who benefit from this as they are selling stuff to those socialists countries and they aren't just giving them money through handouts but bank loans as well. Germany is getting both the profits from the goods it sells and the interest from the loans people take out to buy that stuff. We saw this with Greece (the word brexit was taken from grexit) when they looked like they were going to crash out of the Euro. They couldn't be allowed to go bankrupt and reorganise their economy in a way that worked better for them because German banks couldn't be allowed to loan lose money (even though they knew the risks). So the whole country is going to have to live like debt slaves for the next 50 years.
