If NATO forces enter Ukraine, Putin will threaten with nuclear weapons because he will claim that NATO forces are ganging up on poor Russia. However, if just a few Western countries such as Poland or France send forces to Ukraine, Putin can't say that. France and Poland can say that they are just evening the odds since Russia has overwhelming numerical superiority over Ukraine.
