The Ukrainian nonagenarian did fight the Soviet Union, but as part of the 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS, “a Nazi military unit whose crimes against humanity during the Holocaust are well-documented,” according to the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center, a Canadian human rights group promoting awareness about the Holocaust and fighting antisemitism.

The Waffen SS. Way to go, morons. Hey, in the modern day, proxy war has gotta proxy. Somebody has a Global Empire, and you're tasked with helping.

What's to apologize for? Calling patriotic truckers Nazis, then turning around and giving a standing ovation to a man who fought under a Nazi flag and in a Nazi SS uniform against the Allies while deporting and murdering Jews?
