@Elazul: I'd love to buy this guy a drink.

the commitment to Gaza runs deeper than fears for our safety, fears for our careers, fears for our paychecks.

Which is something the University presidents, corporate CEOs, corporate media talking heads, and Washington political establishment, including all members of the US Congress, cannot comprehend.

They cannot understand that kind of courage and integrity, because they have none themselves. They are so addicted to their own wealth and power, their own paychecks, and their own privileged positions rubbing elbows with the elite, that they're rendered themselves impotent.

The members of the US House and Senate could stand up, say "I cannot support this immoral, corrupt system any more", and resign their position. But they don't, and they won't, because they are weak. They are like addicts, afraid of losing their next fix.

What's the real reason students are rioting on American University campuses? I don't really think it's Israel.

You lost me when you referred to the 1960s anti-war protests as "riots".

This is what passes for analysis these days in Foreign Affairs, which is commonly considered one of the most influential journals in the US - calling for another Cold War with China
Centaurea 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun 1 month ago

What would winning look like? China’s communist rulers would give up trying to prevail in a hot or cold conflict with the United States and its friends. And the Chinese people—from ruling elites to everyday citizens—would find inspiration to explore new models of development and governance that don’t rely on repression at home and compulsive hostility abroad.

Talk about projection. Everything the authors accuse China of doing is what the US itself is doing. The main perpetrator of "compulsive hostility" is the US, itself. And "repression at home" in the US is growing daily.

Do these guys realize that? Or have they bought their own gaslighting BS?

Why is SLAVERY legal in Africa unlike America who ABOLISHED slavery in 1865?

Thanks to Hillary "We came, we saw, he died" Clinton, the slave trade is flourishing in Libya. I'm sure she and Bill would be the first to send their daughter and grandkids to fight against slavery in north Africa. [/s]

Let's face it, everything is a "messaging" issue for the Dem party. It's how they do life. The DNC's consultants make big bucks coming up with that manipulative BS.

The barbarian at the gates of Europe has been a deliberate instrument of propaganda to construe European solidarity against Russia as a non-European entity.
Centaurea 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun 3 months ago

Taking it further, the entire narrative that "everyone in the world except for Europe and the US are savage barbarians" is wearing very thin.

The Narcissistic Western Elites: An Operations Manual
Centaurea 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun 3 months ago

Narcissists will always attribute incompetence, stupidity and weakness in general to their adversaries and form their plans accordingly

And since narcissists operate via projection and lack self-awareness, they constantly shoot themselves in the foot.

It's a way to increase net revenues and thus corporate share value, which is the only priority in our system of financialized capitalism. Get rid of as many human workers as possible.

... increased depression and increased suicide. Your seratonin, what produces your contentment and happiness, 95% is made in the gut and Ozempic is essentially gut dysfunction.

That's because our neuroendocrine system is interdependent with the gut. That includes the immune system and the brain, as well as the various hormonal systems. In order for those systems to function correctly, the gut has to be working properly.

In essence, the human species is killing itself off. By choice, to the extent that the individual members of the species are capable of making a choice.

And because, beginning in the 1990s, investment bankers thought it would be a great idea to destroy the US's manufacturing capability (and with it, the once-thriving American middle class) and offshore it all to Asia, because doing so would increase corporate net profits and thus corporate share value on Wall Street.

We have turned control of our country over to a bunch of hard-core addicts who can only see as far as their next fix.

Alan Dershowitz: "I understand all the feminist groups and radicals who think this is the worst thing in the world—that anybody ever had any contact with Jeffrey Epstein—where are all those radical feminists when it comes to the Hamas rapes of young Jewish girls, sexual abuse, beheadings?"

Standard DARVO tactic used by abusers to distract and divert attention away from their own behavior.

I'd also be interested in hearing Dershowitz's thoughts about Robert Maxwell's (and possibly Jeffrey Epstein's) connections with Mossad.

Centaurea 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun 5 months ago

they don't think long term.

Our current system is set up to benefit the corporate oligarchy, which basically means Wall Street. Corporate share value is king. Everything is measured by its impact on corporate share value. That's a very short-term unit of measurement.

The analogy I like to use is addiction. The corporate oligarchs are like addicts who can only see as far as their next fix.

Bidenomics Puts Business, Not Workers, First | The Biden economy's defenders claim it is delivering big gains to workers. But people are still feeling pain in their wallets and the rich are the ones benefiting the most.

I got a fundraising text from them last week, in which that's what they said. Framing it as "We have to beat those mean Republicans!"

R.I.P. Henry Kissinger
Centaurea 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun 6 months ago

I'm remembering the Town Hall televised the night before the 2016 Michigan Democratic primary election. Hillary Clinton started waxing nostalgic about her beloved mentor, Henry Kissinger, and how we need more people like him.

To his credit, Bernie went ballistic, in that cranky way that Bernie used to do a lot more of. "Well, I'm not going to stand here and say good things about Henry Kissinger, I can tell you!"

I don't expect the 2023's version of Bernie to say anything bad about Kissinger. Maybe he'll just make himself scarce while the canonization of St. Henry takes place.

(Bernie ended up winning the Michigan primary handily, to the shock of the corporate news media, who refused to call the election for Bernie until over 90% of precincts had reported in.)
