Andrew Korbyko discusses this interview and makes some interesting points:

  • Zelensky is walking back expectations of a swift maximalist victory

  • He’s beginning to suspect that his Western patrons are lying to his face. They seem increasingly interested in resuming talks with Russia

  • Electoral considerations [in the West] might still result in that happening though. He’s therefore plotting to manipulate voters into pressuring their politicians against this using the media: ‘People will not forgive [their leaders] if they lose Ukraine.’

  • He ominously hints that Ukrainian refugees might riot if the West curtails aid to their country: “There is no way of predicting how the millions of Ukrainian refugees in European countries would react to their country being abandoned. Ukrainians have generally ‘behaved well’ and are ‘very grateful’ to those who sheltered them. They will not forget that generosity. But it would not be a ‘good story’ for Europe if it were to ‘drive these people into a corner’.”

Funny thing is these people abandoned their country first. On some level they have no one to blame but themselves

Right, though it can't be argued that huge numbers of humans are hypocrites, as in "I didn't stay to defend my country but will blame the West if it's defeated."

On the other hand, I would imagine there's also a huge number that would not bite the hand that continues to feed them and risk getting deported back to what Ukraine is now. Not only the lack of economic opportunities but the punishment they would be subjected to, either by the regime - being used as cannon fodder, for starters - or by its ultranationalist thugs for having abandoned it in the first place.
