Life isn't always beautiful. It doesn't matter whether you've been a good person or a bad one. Some individuals simply meet the wrong people or experience nearly unending amounts of hardship in life. What's the point of living if you can't be happy? Life doesn't have a reset button, suicide is the final answer to those who have tried to better their lives but constantly get pushed down or get wronged.

And if he'd toughed it out he'd probably look back at this in 5 or 10 years and be so relieved he didn't kill himself.

I'm sorry to hear that. I was depressed in my teens and early 20s but I'm really glad now I didn't commit suicide. Although ironically thanks to chronic pain I've been dealing with the idea lately that there will be a point I can't tolerate it anymore.
