I've seen this a few times now, where someone tries to intervene, or they themselves are being attacked, but they don't seem to appreciate the seriousness of the situation. A murder is in progress, and they're like "hey man, let's take a step back and cool down". The best I can guess, their mind just can't accelerate fast enough from "normal day at work" to "a murder is in progress", they end up somewhere in between.

It's like the guy was saying, "Okay, okay. I know you're mad, but let's chill for a bit and discuss this."
