You are doing it wrong. Just follow the site's rules. There are no downvotes here! Which is weird, but I kind of like it.

That's honestly how it should be. The stuff people downvote on reddit boggles the mind. You contribute something 100% positive and 20 seconds later you get downvoted and you're going "what fucking lifeless piece of shit downvoted that?" I mean how boring is your life that your one big power is to downvote stuff on reddit? I will never understand. When I first came in reddit years ago, I just to just upvote everything - then I saw how many fucking lifeless pieces of shit were on there and I stopped.

Bots. The answer you're looking for is bots.

Why bots downvote everything is a matter of nuance. There are certain subreddits that they want to have curated content at the top. So they mass-upvote it, and mass-downvote everything else that appears on "new". In other cases, you might be on the politics subreddit and you post something that is not approved by the current narrative. Reddit is almost entirely curated content.

In every subreddit?

Pretty much every subreddit is manipulated in some way, unless you have one that is seriously obscure. Also reddit is full of asshats. I will date myself here and say it's the Eternal September effect.

reddit is full of asshats.

It's true and it's sad. It should be a much funner place but there are so many douchebags and they're very proud of their douchebaggery.

When it was new, before it was in the top 100 of websites in the world, you could have thoughtful discussions with intelligent comments. Now it's almost a total waste. Theodore Sturgeon (writing about sci fi books) said "80% of everything is crap". It applies to comment sections on reddit.

I'm old enough to remember usenet, reddit reminds of that. I remember there were so many douchebag who were just happy to be douchebags, lonely losers who only time they get to get attention is by being an asshole online. That's reddit now.
